School Mascot: a RedHawk…whatever the hell that is.
Do outsiders “get” your mascot?: Well, we used to be the Redskins but decided we were’t racist anymore in the mid-90’s. RedHawks isn’t that bad considering one of the other finalists was going to be, get this, The Red Bricks. Our mascot, Swoop, wears football jersey #69 during all football games.
School Fight Song: People keep telling me that there are words to the song but I disagree, the only words are “claps”. Link
Traditions: For some reason, we do the Florida Gator “Chomp” before kickoffs at home games…I have no idea why.
Before tests, you are told to “rub the turtle’s head” at a statue on campus. But don’t step on the university logo at the center of campus, you will fail.
Since we normally have spring break over st. patty’s day, we enacted Green Beer Day, the Thursday before Spring Break.
Geographical Features: Lots of hills, out in the middle of nowhere. Near Cincinnati and Dayton.
Architectural Features: Red bricks are everywhere.
