Homepage: The Serious Tip
School: Florida State University
Location: Tallahassee, FL
School Colors: Garnet and Gold
School Mascot: Chief Osceola and his horse, Renegade
Do outsiders “get” your mascot?: Most people understand our mascot. Chief Osceola represents the Seminole Nation, a group of Native Americans who refused to be “conquered” by the U.S. Government in the 1800s. The university has taken the utmost care in recent years to work with the Seminole Tribe of Florida to ensure they are using the Seminole name with pride.
School Fight Song: The school fight song is something only the band knows. Everyone else just kinda mumbles along until they get to the end: “F-L-O-R-I-D-A S-T-A-T-E! Florida State, Florida State, Florida State, Woooo!”
Traditions: FSU is home to many traditions, some sanctioned, some not. Among the traditions the school does not endorse yet are bar crawls on 21st birthdays and tossing people in the school fountains.
As for traditions the school does think highly of, there is the Garnet and Gold guys, the Lady SpiritHunters, and the planting of a fiery spear by Chief Osceola to start every home football game. Yet these traditions pale in comparison to FSU’s most indelible tradition: the Tomahawk Chop and its accompanying War Chant.
Geographical Features:
Architectural Features: Although most would say the Westcott Fountain, the picturesque landmark shown on most brochures and postcards, I would have to go with Doak Campbell Stadium. While great packed with 80,000 plus cheering fellow Seminoles, Doak Campbell is even better empty. No place is better to take a nap between classes than in the natural serenity of an empty stadium.
Notable Alumni: Wow. Well there are plenty of athletes, such as Deion Sanders, entertainers such as Burt Reynolds and Richard Simmons, famous astronauts, scientists, the current governor of FL and one famous Cowgirl.
Anything else we need to know?: The grass is green, the girls are pretty, and the beer is cheap. Just watch out for the roaming tow trucks.

the Airport Rd. PIG ROAST…best keg party ever (30+ kegs every year), slip’n’slide, bands, DJ, wet-t contest, and hundreds of pounds of delicious roasted pork, 8 years running since 2000.
I wish I would’ve attended FSU. It’s so much more fun than UF. I can’t believe FSU rejected me and UF didn’t. Hopefully I can go there for grad school.
Wow, Gator Nation, that might be the smartest thing I have ever read by a Gator. I am framing that and putting it on my refrigerator.
